Polar Bear Plunge will help those in need of heating
Some brave Caroline County residents will plunge into an icy lake Saturday to raise money for those who cannot afford heating in their homes.
A Polar Plunge will be held at the main beach in Lake Land’Or Saturday.
The plunge is being organized by Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church and St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church.
A chili cook-off begins at 11 a.m. The costume contest will start around 11:30 and plungers will hit the water at noon.
Each participating church keeps the money its members raise to use in its emergency assistance programs.
Money raised by plungers not affiliated with a participating church goes to a community organization that helps those in need.
There will be at least one familiar face taking the plunge on Saturday: Western Caroline Supervisor Jeff Black.
Tuesday night, the Board of Supervisors approved a donation of $1,000 toward the cause.
