Caroline IDA could become EDA
The Caroline Industrial Development Authority wants to become the Caroline Economic Development Authority.
The board will hold a public hearing on the matter at its February meeting. At Tuesday’s meeting, Chairman Floyd Thomas said he did not see an issue with the change and other board members nodded in agreement. There was no official vote taken.
The change is the discussion of the IDA’s expanding role, which includes promoting tourism, supporting small business, assisting cultural projects as well as maintaining its traditional lending function, according to a memo written by Gary Wilson, the county’s director of economic development and tourism.
The IDA has supported county projects, such as the Sydney E. King Arts Center, in Bowling Green and created a scholarship program and county businesses such as the McKesson Corporation and the State Fair of Virginia.
It has set up business development programs such as BizVids, tourism initiatives such as the Certified Hotel program and property development through funding the Aerial Property Tour video.
The name change is done through a text amendment to the county’s code.
