Route 639 widening to begin Wednesday
Construction will begin Wednesday to widen Route 639 in Caroline County to add a new left turn lane.
The $3.5 million project will add a universal left turn lane to the center of the roadway that can be used by drivers traveling in either direction. It will be located between U.S. 1 and about a third of a mile east of U.S. 1.
While construction is taking place, the speed limit will be 35 miles per hour in the work zone.
A $1.4 million contract for construction was awarded to Fredericksburg-based J.L. Kent & Sons, Inc., according to a Virginia Department of Transportation press release.
The project is expected to be completed by May 2015.
