School Board appoints personnel hearing officers
At its special meeting Monday afternoon, the Caroline School Board appointed two “impartial hearing officers” to conduct grievance hearings in cases of recommended dismissal of a teacher.
Basically, if a teacher is fired, they have the right to file a grievance and are entitled to a grievance hearing. The hearing officer conducts the hearing and makes a recommendation to the school board. It’s a protection between the board and the individual.
It’s been recommended by the state that all School Boards have this policy said School Board Chairwoman Nancy Carson, in an interview.
The School Board appointed two officers Monday: Dr. E. Ben Howerton and Dr. Randall Thomas.
Here is the resolution approved by the School Board.
Madison District’s Shawn Kelley and Reedy Church’s Mack A. Wright, Jr. were both absent from the meeting.
