Port Royal to have river cleanup Saturday
In preparation for the pier that will be built in Port Royal on the Rappahannock River in the spring, the town is having a river cleanup this weekend.
Here are details from the town’s Facebook page.
Saturday, October 12, will be clean-up day at the foot of King Street in Port Royal and the surrounding shoreline. This effort is being led by Friends of the Rappahannock and is tied to the Town’s planned construction of a fishing pier and soft-launch facility for canoes and kayaks. Here is information from FOR along with sign-up information. LET’S MAKE THIS A REAL COMMUNITY PROJECT!!
We are spreading the word about a tidal cleanup, next week, in Port Royal. It’d be great if you could direct a few folks to sign up on the website www.riverfriends.org. We will meet at the foot of King St., right at the base of the bridge. Lunch (from River Haven) and equipment provided 9-12. At this same location, this coming Spring, we will be constructing a handicap-access pier and soft launch with educational signage and living shorelines to promote good stewardship. Send ‘em along!
