Caroline teen dies in Ladysmith crash
A Caroline County teenager was killed Thursday after she was struck by a car while walking across U.S. 1 in Ladysmith.
Virginia State Police responded to the crash site on the southbound lane on U.S. 1, just south of Deerfield Road, around 6:30 p.m.
According to State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar, the teenage girl was attempting to cross U.S. 1, but was struck by a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix as she was walking in the right travel lane. The car was traveling southbound, Molnar said.
The teen, identified as 17-year-old Mia McManus of Glen Cove Drive in Ruther Glen, was flown by helicopter to VCU Medical Center, where she later died.
McManus was a student at the Caroline Diversified Learning Center.
The 21-year-old female driver of Woodford was not injured, Molnar said.
The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the ongoing investigation.
