Caroline suspends temporary open burning ban

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 18, 2012

“Caroline County Suspends Temporary Ban on Open Burning”

Caroline, Virginia – The Caroline County Department of Fire-Rescue and Emergency Management has suspended the “NO BURNING or OUTDOOR FIRE BAN” established on April 11, 2012.

Based on the Department’s recommendation, enforcement of the Emergency Ordinance against open burning will also be suspended. This action coincides with improved ground moisture levels and weather conditions across the region.

The Virginia Statewide 4 PM Open Burning Restrictions remain in effect. This prohibits any open burning before 4 PM. Although fire danger conditions have improved, citizens are asked to continue to be extra cautious with any outdoor burning and abide by existing County ordinances for open burning.

Homeowners should attend all fires and have a means of extinguishment or control method readily available. Please do not burn on windy days.

The Caroline County Board of Supervisors, Department of Fire-Rescue and Emergency Management, Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia Department of Forestry would like to thank the citizens for their cooperation during the local “No Open Burning” ban.

This greatly reduced the number of wildfires during this period and improved the overall safety of the County.
