Brush/Woods Fire – 11080 Edgehill Academy Road
Caroline County, VA – April 10, 2012
Caroline, VA – The Caroline County Fire-Rescue Department responded to a brush fire near 11080 Edgehill Academy Road earlier this afternoon. The call was received at 2:11 pm and units from Upper Caroline, Bowling Green, and Ladysmith fire stations were dispatched. While responding, additional information was received that the fire was spreading rapidly. Additional resources from all County Fire and EMS Departments, as well as the Virginia Department of Forestry and mutual aid resources from Spotsylvania County were dispatched. The first unit arrived on-scene at 2:22 pm to find a large woods fire evolving and spreading quickly.
Due to very windy conditions and extremely low humidity the fire was quickly spreading towards the East and toward homes. Due to the fire escalating and limited site access, more resources were requested including the use of specialized forestry bull dozers and a helicopter equipped with a water bucket. As a precaution, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office closed a portion of roadway in the immediate area. The fire was marked under control at 5:25 pm and contained to approximately 30 acres. More than 30 firefighters responded, and no injuries or structural damage was reported. The cause remains under investigation.
