Caroline County Appoints New Fire-EMS Chief
Bowling Green, VA, February 15, 2012: The Caroline County Board of Supervisors is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason R. Loftus as Fire-EMS Chief.
Loftus is a 20 plus year veteran of the fire service and has served as Public Safety Director for Accomack County, Virginia since 2003, where he led a system of over 700 volunteer and career fire and EMS personnel.
He entered the fire service as a Fire/Rescue Lieutenant with Fairmount Volunteer Fire Department in Syracuse, New York where he served from 1988-1994.
His first career position was with the Garner Fire Department in Garner, North Carolina as a Firefighter First Class. In 1998, he was hired by the Wake County, NC Public Safety Fire/Rescue Division where he rose from Training Officer to Shift Supervisor.
He holds numerous professional certifications including Executive Fire Officer (EFO), Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFOD) and Certified Emergency Manager (CEM)
Loftus earned a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science: Fire Administration from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of New York College at Cortland and a Masters of Education from the University of Virginia.
“We are very pleased to have a person of Jason’s caliber and experience as our FireEMS Chief” said Interim County Administrator Alan L. Partin. “His leadership skills and professionalism will be a tremendous asset as we strive to provide outstanding fire and rescue services to the citizens of Caroline County.”
Loftus will begin his duties in Caroline on March 19.
