State Police investigate I-95 crash in Caroline
Caroline Co. – At 1:10 p.m. this afternoon, Virginia State Police Trooper D. A. Melson responded to a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 95 northbound at the 103.6 mile marker in Caroline County.
The crash occurred when the driver of a 1988 Peterbilt Tractor-Trailer slowed due to traffic and lost control of his vehicle. The Peterbilt struck a 2012 Freightliner Tractor-Trailer causing the Freightliner to run off the right side of the roadway, overturn onto the passenger side and down the embankment. The Peterbilt jackknifed and came to rest blocking the right lane and right shoulder.
The driver of the Peterbilt, who was wearing his safety belt, was not injured in the crash. The driver of the Freightliner, who was wearing his safety belt, suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital.
The right lane was closed until 4:20 p.m. when it was reopened to traffic. Traffic was backed up approximately two miles.
The crash remains under investigation.
