Thursday night’s hunt for a convicted murderer facing new charges in Caroline County came up empty.
Warrants for 42-year-old John Thomas Lewis were issued today for a domestic violence-related incident that occurred in Caroline, said Maj. Scott Moser of the Caroline sheriff’s office.
Moser said a car chase started around 6:20 p.m. in Spotsylvania County and ended when the driver crashed in a yard in Caroline and fled on foot from Guinea Drive towards the railroad tracks.
Deputies with the Caroline and Spotsylvana sheriff’s offices searched for nearly three hours, but was unable to locate him.
Moser said police would like to get citizen tips about Lewis’ whereabouts. He is considered armed and dangerous, Moser said.
Lewis is described as a bald black male about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 190 bounds. He was last seen wearing dark-colored pants, a red T-shirt and a black hoodie.
According to court records, Lewis was convicted of second degree murder in June of 1993 in Richmond Circuit Court and sentenced to 21 years in prison.
If anyone comes in contact with Lewis, police say to use extreme caution and contact 911 or the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office at 804/633-5400.
