Culpeper Farmers’ Cooperative, Inc., parent company of CFC Farm & Home Center stores, has made the decision to close one of its retail locations located on Route 1 in Caroline County, just north of State Route 207.
“We will be conducting an orderly dispersal of inventory at this location over the next sixty days,” said General Manager David E. Durr in a letter to patrons. “Service to customers in the Caroline, Hanover, Goochland, Southern King George and greater Richmond areas will be handled via direct- to-farm delivery by CFC locations in Morrisville and Culpeper.”
Durr said the transition to the new delivery system will begin to take place sometime around Nov. 21 and all customers who currently get deliveries out of the Caroline location will be notified individually as to how the change will be handled for their farm.
Orders will continue to be taken at the Caroline store phone numberat 804/448-0266.
The Caroline location first opened in February of 2007 and Durr said the store has “experienced the difficult headwinds of the economic downturn that quickly followed in 2008 despite the best efforts of our dedicated employee group and loyal customers.”
The CFC Board of Directors decided it is in the best interests of the Cooperative’s farmer owners to consolidate operations into the other five retail locations throughout Northern Virginia, Durr said.
Durr told the eight employees at the Caroline store that they could submit applications to the other locations, but could make no promises.
Established in 1932, Culpeper Farmers’ Cooperative, Inc. is locally owned by the agricultural producers that it serves. Besides the Caroline County location CFC operates five CFC Farm & Home Center retail stores located in Culpeper, Morrisville, Warrenton, Marshall and Washington, Virginia. CFC also owns and operates a fertilizer plant in Marshall, Virginia and a feed mill and fertilizer plant in Culpeper,Virginia.
