Virginia State Police Trooper A.J. Rutherford responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 607 approximately a 1/2 mile north of Route 606 in Caroline County. The crash occured at 7:09 p.m.
According to Spokeswoman Corinne Geller of the Virginia State Police, a 1998 Yamaha YZF600R motorcycle ran off the left side of Route 607 and struck a tree.
Its rider, David S. Petry, 20, of Fredericksburg, was thrown from the motorcycle. He died at the scene.
Petry was wearing a helmet, she said.
Geller said alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time.
According to his Facebook page, Petry attended Massaponax High School and worked for Pohanka Automotive Group since 2009. He posted that he had just got a new motorcycle on Aug. 17, a week before his death.
