Memorial service set for CHS student
A memorial service will be held tonight for a Caroline High School student who died earlier this week.
David Jones, who recently completed his sophomore year, collapsed in the high school gym Sunday afternoon soon after starting practice with his AAU basketball team.
A cause of death has not been released.
Jones, known by his classmates as “Brooklyn,” moved to Caroline County about seven months ago from New York. He lived with his grandparents in Bowling Green.
He played junior varsity basketball and ran track for Caroline High in the few months that he attended.
Caroline Principal Harper Donahoe said Jones was a well-liked, popular student at school. He said he had a sports physical on file that made him eligible to play high school sports, and there was no indication that he had any health problems.
A memorial service will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Caroline County Community Services Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, in Milford.
A visitation will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
A visitation is also scheduled at St. Paul Community Baptist Church in Brooklyn on Friday, followed by a funeral service.
