Caroline High student death confirmed
A Caroline High School basketball player has died.
Caroline County Schools Superintendent Greg Killough confirmed the death of David Christopher Jones, a rising junior who transferred to Caroline from New York this school year.
No details have been released about the death other than he died around 5:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon after AAU basketball practice at the high school.
Jones, who was called Brooklyn, was a junior varsity basketball player and ran track for Caroline High.
Killough say he was playing basketball at the high school gym yesterday morning for an AAU basketball team when he collapsed. Someone called 911, he said. A teacher who tried to resuscitate him said he had a faint pulse.
It it unclear at this time what the cause of death is, Killough said. The Caroline Sheriff’s Office says no foul play is suspected.
“The students are deeply grieved and we’re keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers,” Killough said this afternoon.
Killough said he had met Jones because he had “moved in this year. A lot of the kids really liked him, he had a really engaging personality.” Killough also said he was a distance track runner.
A memorial Facebook page has been created for David Jones: http://www.facebook.com/pages/In-Loving-Memory-of-David-Brooklyn-Jones/223385004356637?sk=wall
