School Board picks new head basketball coach
The Caroline County School Board approved Antoine Johnson to be the high school’s new boys basketball coach at its meeting Monday night.
Johnson served as an assistant under former coach Broderick Roye for six years. Roye resigned following last season.
Johnson, 31, has been in Caroline’s program for eight years. He spent one year as a junior varsity assistant coach and one year as the JV head coach.
“I feel like the guys trust me,” Johnson said tonight. “I feel like they respond to me well and they’ll be excited to play for me.”
Johnson, a graduate of Henrico High School and Virginia Commonwealth University, has been a geometry teacher at Caroline High for eight years.
He said his goal has always been to be a head coach. He said the Cavaliers will play an up-tempo style and utilize pressure defense.
Caroline (8-11 in 2010-11) returns all but one player from last season’s team.
