Caroline blogger shares insight on redistricting process
A Caroline blogger that served on the county’s redistricting comittee has shared some insight on the process and a few maps. Check it out
Here’s an excerpt:
As I stated in a recent post, I am on the redistricting committee for Caroline County, and today I would like to share some maps with you! I will give you a little background first. Between 2000 and 2010, the population in the Madison District doubled. There was growth in the other districts as well, but nothing at all compared to in the Madison District. This was the biggest issue that had to be dealt with by the committee. We did not want to split Lake Land’Or into two different districts, which made things even harder, since there are almost 4,000 people in that one community alone. This means that Lake Caroline had to be removed from the Madison District, along with a lot of the more rural areas of the district. I was able to push for the northern half of Ladysmith Village and Campbell’s Creek to be included in the Madison District. (Previously that ‘block’ was in the Mattaponi District.)
Now that Lake Caroline was bumped out, where would we put it?
