State police still investigating fiery, fatal crash
Police are still investigating a fiery crash that killed a man in Caroline County two weeks ago.
According to Sgt. Thomas Molnar of the Virginia State Police, a 1999 Oldsmobile was traveling eastbound on Meadow
Farm Road, near the Meadow Event Park in Doswell, when it ran off the right side of the road on Feb. 11.
The vehicle overturned after it struck a tree, and caught fire, Molnar said.
Trooper G.F. Finch responded to the scene shortly after 2 p.m.
The driver, who was not wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene.
The car is registered to 72-year-old Marshall Elwood Smithers, a Caroline native who was living in Alexandria. But police are waiting for a positive identification from the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond.
