Structure Fire – 7072 Macedonia Road
Caroline County – September 25, 2010
The Caroline County Department of Fire-Rescue responded to structure fire with a reported possible entrapment at 7072 Macedonia Road late yesterday evening, September 24, 2010.
The call was received at 9:42 PM and units from Upper Caroline VFD, Bowling Green VFD, Port Royal VFD and Ladysmith VFD were dispatched. The first unit arrived on scene 5 minutes later to find heavy fire and smoke coming from all sides of the single family dwelling. Additional assistance was requested from Frog Level VFD and Spotsylvania County Fire Department.
One adult fatality was confirmed as result of the fire. The individual’s name is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. No injuries to firefighters were reported.
It took firefighters over an hour to bring the fire under control. The structure was completely damaged by fire. It appears that the origin of the fire began in the rear of the structure and was electrical in nature.
Initial findings reveal the occupant was trying to power the residence with a portable generator when it became overloaded.
It was determined that the residence did not have an operational smoke detector. The Department of Fire-Rescue wants to reiterate the life saving value of properly installed and operable smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in the home.
