Woodford man killed in fiery crash

A Caroline County man was killed Friday night when his truck struck several trees and caught on fire.

According to State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar, Trooper A.N. Vowell was called to the scene of the accident at 9:26 p.m. on Pepmeier Hill Road in the Corbin area of Caroline County, just four miles south of Route 17.

A 1993 Ford Box Truck traveling northbound on Pepmeier Hill Road when the driver ran off of the right side of the road, Molnar said.

The driver then overcorrected causing the truck to run off of the left side of the road striking several trees, causing the truck to catch fire, Molnar said.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, died at the scene, Molnar said.

The victim was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond for a positive identification, Molnar said.

Members of Round Oak Baptist Church in Caroline say the driver was Bob James, a custom cabinet maker from Woodford.

He was married and the father of two adult sons.

The accident remains under investigation and speed is considered to be a factor, Molnar said.
