Mobile home fire displaces 7
Mobile Home Fire – 17203 North Roye Lane
Caroline County, VA – February 9, 2010
Caroline County Fire/Rescue responded to a structure fire at 17203 North Roye Lane earlier this evening. The call was received at 5:53 pm and units from Ladysmith VFD, Bowling Green VFD, Upper Caroline VFD, and Ladysmith VRS were dispatched. A disabled homeowner’s car along the ¼ mile long driveway delayed emergency responders from reaching the scene. The Virginia Department of Transportation along with a local towing company assisted responders in accessing the call. The first unit arrived on-scene at 6:08 pm to find heavy fire and smoke coming from a mobile home.
The residence was occupied by two adults and five children. All occupants self-evacuated from the affected structure without injury. The home was completely destroyed by the fire and the family was displaced. At this time, they are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
The fire began in the kitchen of the home. The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was caused by food on the stove. The residence did have a working smoke detector. The Department of Fire and Rescue wants to reiterate the life saving value of properly installed and operable smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in the home.
