Census 2010 committe held 1st meeting
Holds Initial Meeting
Caroline County’s 2010 Census Committee held its initial meeting on October 26 at the Community Services Center.
Almost 30 members of the community representing various constituency groups make up the committee, which was appointed by the members of the Board of Supervisors and County Administrator Percy Ashcraft. The committee is charged with assisting Census takers in making sure every person in Caroline County is counted.
“It was a good first meeting,” commented Ashcraft, who chairs the committee. “Every one attending left with a better understanding of the process and how important the Census is to Caroline County.”
April Ausley, partnership specialist for the US Census Bureau, gave an overview of the committee’s duties and responsibilities. She drove home the point that Caroline could stand to lose its portion of $400 billion in federal funds that has approved annually by Congress if proper census counts are not taken.
The next meeting of the committee is January 25, 2010. Ashcraft indicated there will be plenty of County activity in the months of February and March leading up to Census Day on April 1.
“We will have a great deal of public exposure on this important matter,” Ashcraft said. “Committee members will spend the next two months visiting with their various constituency groups and emphasizing the importance of the Census.”
