            For Immediate Release

According to Sheriff A. A. “Tony” Lippa, on July 26, 2009, Mike’s Outdoor Shop located on Milford Street in the town limits of Bowling Green was burglarized.  During the crime several firearms were stolen.

The investigation progressed due in part to citizen tips.  As a result of these leads, on July 29, 2009, after conducting an undercover operation, Caroline Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrested two male juveniles, ages 14 and 15.  Both juveniles were charged with breaking and entering, grand larceny of firearms, and conspiracy to commit grand larceny.

Several firearms were recovered and returned to the victim.  During the course of this investigation, Caroline Sheriff’s investigators obtained evidence linking the same two juveniles to the breaking and entering of the Caroline Gunsmith business also located in Bowling Green.  That evidence has been relayed to the Virginia State Police, who are handling that case.

Sheriff Lippa stated, “The cooperation between this office and the Virginia State Police helped lead to the closure of both the crime reported to us and to the crime reported to the state police.  Once again the citizens of Caroline County have played a vital role in helping their Sheriff’s Office.  The information we received from citizens directly led to the arrest of those responsible for committing the crimes.  I cannot thank our citizens enough and I’m sure the state police would echo that sentiment.”

Both juveniles were ordered detained pending their court appearances.
