If you don’t have anything nice to say…you’re out of order!
The Board of Supervisors voted tonight to amend the Board’s by-laws.
The change (on page 5, Section 4-2, No. 2) added this graf: Comments should focus on matters or issues before the Board or County and not individuals Board members or staff. Derogatory comments which single out individual Board members or staff maybe ruled out of order by the Chair.
This amendment comes as result of comments made at the May 12th meeting. A resident, during the public comment period, made some remarks toward Supervisor Bobby Popowicz and a proposed plan for industrial growth in the Port Royal district. My guess is that it hit a nerve with Chairman Wayne Acors, who proposed the amendment.
"As long as I’m the chair, I’m not going to allow anyone to single out…and talk in a negative fashion [about any of the supervisors]," Acors said. "I don’t thinkit’s appropriate."
Supervisor Jeff Sili was concerned that the amendment wouldn’t allow residents to make compliments or say what they wanted to say
The amendment passed 4 to 1.
