Caroline supervisors approve free decals for public safety staff

The Caroline County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to allow one free county sticker per year to deputy sheriffs, paid fire fighters and emergency medical technicians.

This was once a benefit granted only to qualified members of the volunteer fire departments and rescue squads.

Robert Mitchell, chief of the Frog Level Volunteer Fire Department, asked that the supervisors leave it as an incentive for volunteers only since the others receive a paycheck.

"We can’t pay these guys near what they are worth," said Supervisor Maxie Rozell. "[But] we do need to enhance what we do for our volunteers."

County decals are $23 for cars and $28 for trucks. The free decals will result in an estimated $1,179 in lost revenue.
