Hyperion’s outdoor tables going non-smoking

In a move to guard the health of its customers, Hyperion Espresso in downtown Fredericksburg is banning smoking in its outdoor seating areas, according to owner Dan Peterson.

A statement about the policy said the change is to benefit all customers, especially children, pregnant mothers and those with respiratory illnesses.

The new policy will take effect Monday, Sept. 8.

The ban includes but is not limited to cigarettes, cigars, cloves cigarettes, pipes, hookah and vaping.

“We realize and regret this will be an unpopular change for some of our most favorite and valued customers,” said the statement. “Please understand we mean no disrespect to our smoking patrons and did not take this decision lightly. Our employees do not make company policy, please be respectful of that.”
