B&B proposed for Caroline Street

A new bed a breakfast is being proposed on Caroline Street.

Ross and Lynda Retterer want to open a two-bedroom inn at their 2,500-square-foot 1513 Caroline St. home.

They would run the bed and breakfast themselves, and serve breakfast of pastries, fresh fruit and beverages for guests if their special use permit is approved.

Lynda Retterer said they plan on having about four patrons at a time and if they are approved, will open in October.

She said the bed and breakfast will open at first only on weekends, and then expand to offer weekday bookings and she and her husband get used to the business.

Retterer is retired and said embarking on a second career is “a  little scary but exciting.”

Owning a bed and breakfast has been a goal of the Retterer’s for years and she said now seems to be the right time to open one in Fredericksburg.

“There are too few choices,” she said. “I think there’s definitely a need so people don’t have to stay out in Central Park or Massaponax.”

A special use permit for the bed and breakfast will come before the planning commission for a public hearing on Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall chambers.
