Business Notes, 7/25/14

Here are some odds and ends from the Fredericksburg-area business world over the last week:

  • Fredericksburg-based IST Research has won a $7 million contract with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Memex program. The program seeks to develop the next generation of search technologies and revolutionize the discovery, organization and presentation of search results.
  • Spirit Halloween Superstores, LLC leased 6,400-square-feet at 1688 Carl D Silver Pkwy. in Fredericksburg. Robby Brownfield, Rob Black, Chris Doyle and Lee Cherwek of CBRE handled the transaction on behalf of the landlord.
  • The American Bankers Association’s Nominating Committee has selected G. William Beale, president and CEO, Union Bankshares Corp. as its treasurer.
  • Marstel-Day was named for the sixth year in a row, to management services firm, ZweigWhite’s Hot Firm List of fastest-growing U.S. architecture, engineering and environmental consulting firms. Marstel-Day was listed at number 56 as one of the nation’s 100 fastest-growing environmental consulting firms.
  • Sherry Ritenour, director of operations for the Fredericksburg Food Lion was honored in Progressive Grocer’s 2014 Top Women in Grocery List. Ritenour has been with the company for 19 years. Since working at Food Lion, Ritenour has received the store manager of the year award, as well as other company honors for having top item growth, associate development and her work with the community.
  • Dan Singh, owner of Dan’s Pharmacy, on Va. 610 in North Stafford, was awarded Stafford County’s Entrepreneur of the Year award.
