Rappahannock Media purchases Culpeper Times

The Culpeper Times, a local weekly under the Virginia News Group, has been sold to Rappahannock News owner Rappahannock Media, it was announced last week.

In a Rappahannock News report about the sale, former Culpeper Times owner Peter W. Arundel said “he is pleased that the new owner, Dennis Brack, is someone familiar with and very passionate about local journalism.”

Anita L. Sherman, the Culpeper Times editor, will remain at the paper. She has served as the managing editor of the Culpeper Times since November 2008.

Terms of the July 9 acquisition from Virginia News Group, based in Leesburg, were not disclosed.

Lou Emerson, who owns Fauquier Now, started the Culpeper Citizen, a sister paper to the Fauquier Citizen, in 2003. In 2006, the Leesburg-based Virginia News Group purchased both papers. The name of the Culpeper Citizen was then changed to the Culpeper Times.

The Culpeper Times has a current circulation of more than 10,000.

Brack said, in the report, that plans are underway to open an office in Culpeper.
