Kickshaws Downtown Market opens Saturday

kKickshaws Downtown Market opens to the public Saturday, July 19 at 10 a.m.

The organic food store is the brainchild of Kathy Craddock, who said she came up with the idea after seeing a demonstrated need for healthful groceries in downtown Fredericksburg.

Kickshaws will inhabit the roughly 1,100-square-foot space at 101 William St. was formerly occupied by the Virginia Deli.

Craddock has renovated the space, repainting, adding a bathroom and building out shelving space from reclaimed wood.

The location might be small, but Craddock plans on selling vegetables, breads, meats, eggs and other items at price points that won’t scare off potential customers.

She said she wants organic food to be accessible to everyone, and plans on keeping prices around what one might find at the farmer’s market.

Craddock plans on stocking products from Blenheim Organic Gardens,

On Saturday, she will be serving coffee and snacks for customers. A grand opening celebration is planned for First Friday in August after Craddock has had time to receive feedback from customers.

Kickshaws is opening with an assortment of produce, dry goods, fermented products and house-made snacks. In the future, she plans on expanding the refrigerated section and offering kombucha from a Charlottesville-based drink company on draft.

On Saturday Kickshaws will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Sunday hours will be from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Kickshaws is closed Mondays and Tuesday through Friday hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
