Business notes, 7/17/14

  • SimVentions, Inc., a Fredericksburg-based engineering services company, has been named to the 2014 Business Honor Roll by the Virginia School Board Association. Every spring, the Virginia School Board Association Business Honor Roll provides a way for local school divisions to recognize local businesses for their support, especially as schools face increasing budget uncertainty. The Business Honor Roll helps divisions say thanks for their vital contributions. SimVentions was nominated by King George County Schools.
  • Margaret Simpson, R.N., a nurse at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Fredericksburg has been named a finalist in HealthSouth’s companywide Outstanding Employee Achievement Awards.
  • The Rappahannock Area Community Services Board is currently accepting nominations for its 29th annual Distinguished Volunteer Awards in the areas of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability. The awards will be presented at clinic open house events for area legislators and community members in October. Additional information, a list of previous volunteer award winners, and the nomination form are available at www.racsb.state.va.us. Nomination forms must be submitted byFriday, Aug. 22 to RACSB, Attn: Michelle Wagaman, Public Information Officer, 600 Jackson Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22401. Nominations may also be emailed to publicinformation@racsb.state.va.us or faxed to 540- 371-3753.
  • The Rappahannock Area Health District was awarded a $15,000 grant from the Mary Washington Hospital Community Benefit Fund  for its “Every Woman’s Life” (EWL) program. EWL is a public health program that helps uninsured, low income women gain access to free breast and cervical cancer screening services.
  • Through July, Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar franchisees, including the local franchise in Central Park, will support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for the tenth year. With a record $756,000 raised in 2013, and more than $4 million raised since 2005, more than 850 Applebee’s restaurants nationwide will work toward topping the $5 million mark in 2014.
