Business notes, 6/19/14

Here’s a list of odds and ends from the Fredericksburg-area business world over the last week:

  • ScoutComms, Inc. founder and CEO, Fred Wellman of Fredericksburg, was honored last week by the U.S. Small Business Administration as Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year for the state of Virginia for his advocacy of veterans in business and his support of the larger veterans community.
  • Lustine Automall of Woodbridge will donate 100 bicycles to randomly-selected children of Ft. Belvoir families on Saturday, June 21. The bicycles, purchased by Lustine are to commemorate Military Appreciation Month. The automall’s own Military Appreciation Day will be held that day.
  • Zinga! Frozen Yogurt of Spotsylvania celebrated Facebook success and its upcoming one-year anniversary by serving up more than 1,000 ounces of free yogurt and raising $125 for the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter. Those who checked in on the store’s Facebook page (Zingafroyofredericksburg) got the first 8 oz. of their yogurt free last week. A tip jar at the store raised money for the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter.
  • Andrew Grossnickle, CPA, a partner at Robinson, Farmer, Cox Associates in Fredericksburg was honored by The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants as a recipient of its “Top 5 Under 35 Award.” The award recognizes CPA young professionals who have notable professional achievement and contribute to their community.
  •  Stafford County won a National Association of Counties 2014 Achievement Award in the health category for our Employee Wellness Fair.
  • Pitts and Manns Realty has welcomed new agent Joy Crombie if Milford to its Bowling Green office. Her first open house event will be on Saturday.
  • Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer announced this week that Megan Bryant has been promoted to commercial portfolio manager and will be joining the Fredericksburg Property Services Group. She had been a property management assistant in Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer’s Richmond office.
