Business Notes, 4/2/14

Here is some news from Fredericksburg-area businesses over the past week:

  • The Free Lance-Star this week is starting a new automotive-focused newspaper section that provides an inventory of available cars for sale locally. Automotive Marketplace will run every Friday in the FLS, and it’s also available at Fredericksburg.com/automarketplace.
  • Bistro Bethem in downtown Fredericksburg plans a four-course dinner April 10 featuring wines from Va Piano Vineyards in Walla Walla, Wash. The vineyard’s assistant winemaker, Josh McCarthy, has family in Stafford County. The cost is $70 per person, and prepaid reservations are being accepted.
  • Sheetz has applied for an ABC license to sell alcohol at its planned store near the intersection of U.S. 17 and Hospital Boulevard in Spotsylvania County.
  • The owner of Deutschland Downtown in downtown Fredericksburg has applied for an ABC license for the eatery at 411 William St. and is shooting for a June opening.
  • Cary Street Partners, a Richmond-based financial advisory firm with an office in Fredericksburg, has selected Rogerscasey to provide research consulting services for its wealth management division.
  • Gen. Keith B. Alexander, former commander of U.S. Cyber Command, will headline an industry mixer put on by the Quantico-Potomac chapter of AFCEA at the Globe & Laurel Restaurant in North Stafford the evening of April 24. Proceeds from the event will support the Wounded Warrior Cyber Combat Academy.
  • A $10,000 grant from Spotsylvania’s Economic Development Authority last year helped ForAnything.com recently open a new 800-square-foot, loft-style mezzanine that MJL Contractors built above the company’s shipping department at 100 Industrial Drive. The company now employs 31 people.
  • The expanded wellness center at the Falmouth branch of the Rappahannock Area YMCA opened this week.
