Hospice organization merged into MWHC

An organization that has provided hospice services in the Fredericksburg area for more than 30 years has been merged into an arm of Mary Washington Healthcare.

Earlier this month Hospice Support Care closed and transferred its clients and services to Mary Washington Hospice, according to a Thursday announcement from MWHC.

Hospice Support Care and Mary Washington Hospice have partnered for two decades on hospice and grief-support services, according to the announcement, making Mary Washington a “logical choice” to assume the organization’s caseload.

Mary Washington Hospice will continue to run the children and teen bereavement services that Hospice Support Care started in recent years, as well as the Harbor House Bereavement and Training Center on Washington Avenue in Fredericksburg. That facility’s outdoor “Healing Garden” will be maintained.

Local attorneys Paul Simpson and Landon Davis, as well as the Quarles family, played an important role in the transfer, according to the announcement.
