Local woman launching WishStars

A local woman who has been heavily involved in an effort to bring more technology-focused startup companies to the Fredericksburg area is launching a website connecting classrooms with corporate donors.

Christine Goodwin has been working on WishStars for the past couple of years and recently partnered with local web developer Deedod Inc. on the site. A “beta” version is being released this week.

Goodwin describes the site, which she first pitched at a Startup Weekend event in Reston in 2012, as a combination of and Kickstarter “for people who want to make a difference in education.”

The site connects teachers with benefactors who are interested in providing needed resources for the classroom and listing their available opportunities. Goodwin will demonstrate the site at the University of Mary Washington’s Anderson Center on Saturday as part of the third-annual FredTech STEM 16 Summit.

She is looking to sign up more teachers, parents and organizations focused on children. They can create “Wishbooks” that detail necessary resources, with a focus on technological needs.

Goodwin has been instrumental in the region’s first two Startup Weekend events this year and last, and is one of the founders of FredXchange. She also curates the Fredericksburg StartupDigest newsletter.
