New engineering firm started in Fredericksburg

image001A father-daughter team has started a new civil engineering firm in Fredericksburg.

Sara R. Cushing and Bruce A. Reese recently formed Legacy Engineering. Both principals previously worked for Woodbridge-based The Engineering Groupe.

The firm’s focus will be land development for residential and commercial projects.

Cushing, the firm’s president, said at first the business will be run out of her Idlewild home. Eventually the firm would like to get an office in downtown Fredericksburg.

“I just picture walking to Hyperion for my morning coffee, strolling around downtown during lunch and ending my work day at the Pitaiyo Studio,” Cushing said in an email.

Cushing hopes Legacy can take advantage of the city’s status as a HUBZone community. That federal program gives an advantage to HUBZone-certified companies competing for government contracts.
