“The Pink Lady” in downtown Fredericksburg will soon have a new owner who plans to restore the Caroline Street home to its original grandeur.

John Connell, an executive with A-T Solutions who currently lives in Spotsylvania County, will close on the purchase of the home at 201 Caroline St. on Wednesday afternoon, said his Realtor, Kim Ransome with Century 21 AdVenture Redwood. It will become his personal residence.

Connell submitted the winning bid of $519,000 through an online auction. He plans to do much of the thorough renovation himself and also work with local contractor Tom Worman. Work is expected to start soon on the two-story home, which is nearly 5,000 square feet including the basement and is assessed at $718,600.

“She is going to look fabulous,” Ransome said of the 1895 home. “Back to where she originally was.”

The house, which gets its nickname from its exterior color, is in one of Fredericksburg’s nicest neighborhoods. It has now been vacant for years following a foreclosure process, and its deteriorating appearance has irked neighbors including Charles G. McDaniel.
