Stafford airport terminal almost ready

The new terminal at the Stafford Regional Airport is nearing completion.

Airport staff expect to move into the 10,000-square-foot facility in a couple of weeks, and a formal dedication is scheduled for 2 p.m. Jan. 25.

West Point-based Curtis Contracting Inc. is the general contractor for the terminal, which was designed by Petersburg-based architecture firm StudioAmmons.

The $3.4 million facility will include a passengers’ lounge, business center, conference room, flight planning and pilots’ area, administrative offices, vending machines and restrooms. It will replace a double-wide trailer that is currently serving as the airport’s terminal.

Airport officials think the new facility will help attract businesses that may use it for work-related travel.

The Stafford Regional Airport Authority is financing the project through about $2 million in grants from the Virginia Department of Aviation and a $1.4 million loan from Stafford County.
