Retail center planned near Stafford Lakes

A new retail development is proposed near the Geico complex and Stafford Lakes subdivision along U.S. 17 in Stafford County.

The Stafford Lakes Commercial development is planned at the intersection of Stafford Lakes Parkway and U.S. 17. It will be on the same side of U.S. 17 as the Geico complex and just across Stafford Lakes Parkway .

Larry Shaia and his family own the land where the project is proposed through a limited liability company called Theater Square. Plans call for a total of 16,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space in two separate buildings.

Shaia believes the development can attract national retailers and restaurants that have shown an increased interest in Stafford’s U.S. 17 corridor of late. Among the recent examples of retailers opening or planning new locations along U.S. 17 in Stafford are Aldi, Dunkin’ Donuts, Walgreens, Wawa, Firehouse Subs and Panera Bread.

Shaia has hired Loretta Cataldi with Colliers International to handle leasing at the development. He said construction will begin when about 50-60 percent of the space is leased.
