Business Notes, 11/14/13

Here are some odds and ends from the world of Fredericksburg-area business over the past week:

  • Registration is now open for the second Fredericksburg Startup Weekend, which will be Jan. 17-19 at Germanna Community College in Spotsylvania County.
  • Koda’s K&K, a pet-boarding business at 1130 International Parkway in Stafford County, recently expanded its facility and now offers services such as daycare, training, massages and birthday parties for pets.
  • Digital telecommunications firm EtherSpeak held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for its new corporate office at 150 Riverside Parkway in Stafford.
  • The first two residents moved in this past weekend at the new Embrey Mill community off Courthouse Road in Stafford.
  • Used car dealership Elite Auto Inc. recently opened in an 1,800-square-foot space at 5104 Park Drive in Spotsylvania, said Marc Smith, who brokered the lease for Jarrell Properties Inc.
  • Mary Washington Hospital Home Health made HomeCare Elite’s 2013 list of the top-performing home-care providers in the U.S.
  • The RF&P Grapes and Grains Trail, a not-for-profit organization made up of area wineries and a brewery and distillery, will host the Holiday Spirits Festival from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Spotsylvania’s Bowman Center. The event will include live music, holiday shopping, food and products from trail members.
  • Defense contractor MLT Systems LLC recently leased about 4,000 square feet at 10 Center St. in Stafford. The company consolidated into that space from previous offices. John Lench and Wendy Surman Maurer with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank and Phillip Baxter with CBRE handled the lease.
  • Longtime Community Bank of the Chesapeake CEO Michael Middleton will transition to executive chairman June 30. William Pasenelli will become president and CEO of both the bank and its holding company.
