Business Notes, 9/12/13

Here are some odds and ends from the world of Fredericksburg-area business over the past week:

  • FredXchange, which is focused on entrepreneurialism in the Fredericksburg area, is offering to send one local resident to the well-known one-day Startup School on Oct. 19 in California. FredXchange will pay up to $1,500 for someone to travel to the technology-focused startup event. For more information, contact christine@fredxchange.org or matt@fredxchange.org.
  • A Spotsylvania County business off State Route 3 that had been called Karate Brothers is now called Rock Solid Martial Arts & Fitness.
  • Mike Ricks, general manager of the Olive Garden in Fredericksburg, was one of 39 Olive Garden managers in North America to recently receive the Joe R. Lee Diamond Club Award from the chain’s parent company.
  • Spotsylvania-based Plumbing Patrol has changed its name back to Plumbing Police.
  • Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer brokers Jim Ashby and Sharon Schmidt will be handling leasing for the Malone Schooler Co.’s large commercial real estate portfolio. Magnolia Martin, who had handled it previously, is no longer with Thalhimer.
