Local attorney planning project in city

The house currently at 420 Woodford St. will be taken down as part of local attorney Leila Kilgore’s plan for the property.

Local attorney Leila Kilgore plans a new building inĀ Fredericksburg that could serve as her home and office.

Kilgore’s law office is at 1287 Central Park Blvd. In February, she purchased a property at 420 Woodford St. in Fredericksburg that is zoned commercial transitional and includes two city lots.

Kilgore plans to take down the existing house and construct a roughly 12,000-square-foot, three-level building on the two lots. Fredericksburg City Council is discussing an ordinance change that would allow a building of that size by-right.

Kilgore plans to move her law office to the first floor of the new building and attract other professional users. The second floor could be used for residential or office condos. She is thinking about living on the third floor, which will likely have views of the Rappahannock River.

Kilgore is working with local architect James McGhee on the project, on which she plans to break ground early next year. She hopes to be in the new space, which she said will be energy-efficient, sometime next year.
