Business Notes, 6/29/13

Here are some odds and ends from the world of Fredericksburg-area business over the past week:

  • A Family Dollar store will take over the space at 10744 Tidewater Trail in Spotsylvania County that used to be a Rite Aid. Construction on the Family Dollar is under way at the nearly 15,000-square-foot building, where Rite Aid closed in early 2010.
  • An application was recently submitted to Stafford County planning officials for a rezoning and conditional use permit on three acres at the southwest corner of U.S. 17 and McWhirt Loop near a Wawa and CVS. The approvals would allow for the development of commercial retail and two restaurants with drive-through windows. It’s unclear what specific businesses are proposed.
  • The first Lloyd F. Moss Memorial Tennis Tournament is planned July 26-28 at the University of Mary Washington’s tennis complex to raise money for the Moss Free Clinic in Fredericksburg. Click here to register. The top fundraiser will win a trip for two to the U.S. Open in New York.
  • Stafford-based public relations firm ScoutComms Inc., which the Stafford Economic Development Authority recently named as the county’s best place to work and entrepreneur of the year for companies with fewer than 25 employees, was also recently honored for its work on a Home Depot campaign to help veterans transition back into the workforce.
