Paul’s slammed with donut (and bargain) lovers

Customers line up outside Paul’s Bakery on Wednesday for the business’ 40th-anniversary customer appreciation day.

People started lining up outside Paul’s Bakery in Fredericksburg two hours before the doors opened at 6 a.m. Wednesday for the business’ 40th-anniversary customer-appreciation day, said owner Sandra Glancy.

Glancy — who owns the business at 2008 Lafayette Blvd. with her husband, Paul — said there were 85 people waiting in line when the bakery opened. About 100 customers an hour were served throughout the morning.

Sandra Glancy called the turnout “unbelievable.”

Wednesday’s event, which ran from 6 a.m. until noon, featured donuts for 40 cents as well as anniversary T-shirts, free coffee and lemonade, and door prizes.

Paul’s is also holding a free kids party from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot outside the business. That event will feature refreshments, train rides, an inflatable moon bounce and a number of games that Paul Glancy created including “cupcake walk” and “corn hole donut toss.”

The bakery itself is closed Sunday.
