Strip shopping center planned at former magistrate site

A local real estate investor and developer plans a multi-tenant strip shopping center on a Lafayette Boulevard property that formerly housed a magistrate’s office.

Mike Degen purchased the 0.75-acre Spotsylvania County property at 2704-2706 Lafayette Blvd. in November for $263,500, according to property records. He said he will likely lease it out for now, but ultimately plans a 6,500-square-foot strip center divided into four units with parking in the front and back. He doesn’t yet have county approval for the project.

The magistrate’s office on Lafayette recently moved to 9102 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania, a county-owned building that was formerly used as a library and visitor center.
