The proposed Dominion Raceway in Spotsylvania County will sponsor the no. 93 car at the Sprint Cup NASCAR race in Richmond on April 27.

The proposed raceway’s logo will be the dominant image on NASCAR driver Travis Kvapil’s car for the Toyota Owners 400 race the evening of April 27 at Richmond International Raceway.

BK Racing owns the no. 93 team. Its Toyota Camry race car usually has the Burger King logo front and center, but for the April 27 race the Dominion Raceway will have top billing.

“Coming soon to Spotsylvania, VA” and “Exit 118″ will be among the words appearing on the no. 93 car for the race.

The Dominion Raceway is proposed off Interstate 95 just east of the Thornburg interchange. Plans call for a drag strip, oval track and road course, and additional commercial development such as a restaurant and gas station is planned over time at the entrance off Mudd Tavern Road.

The Coalition to Preserve the Thornburg Countryside has raised concerns that the raceway would destroy the rural character of that area, create ample noise and lead to traffic backups.

The raceway still needs a special-use permit and rezoning from Spotsylvania, as well as Virginia Department of Transportation approval to put the entrance closer to the I-95 interchange than standard rules allow. The raceway hopes to open for business in Spotsylvania next year.

Dominion Raceway principal owner Steve Britt said he respects the zoning process and understands that the project isn’t yet approved, but he decided to sponsor the no. 93 car to bring national attention to the proposed Spotsylvania complex. He hopes the sponsorship will attract more people to Dominion Raceway’s Facebook page to build awareness and support.
