Wegner brothers move gallery to Wolfe Street foundry

Longtime area wildlife artists Stewart and Steven Wegner have moved their well-known gallery to the Fredericksburg foundry where the brothers produce sculptures for themselves and others.

Wegner Wildlife Gallery, which features both sculptures and paintings, moved out of its retail space at 905 Caroline St. a few weeks ago, said Stewart Wegner. Before that the gallery had been in a William Street space that Blake and Aby Bethem are now transforming into Vivify Burger Lounge.

Wegner Metal Arts has been run out of the foundry at 520 Wolfe St. for 35 years. The Wegners are now getting their gallery set up in that same building. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The decision gives the twin brothers a chance to focus on their art, Stewart Wegner said.

The Caroline Street space that the Wegners vacated is now available for lease. It includes about 1,700 square feet on the street level and about 1,500 square feet in the basement. Tommy Mitchell owns the building.
