Truland bringing 50 jobs to Ladysmith area

Reston-based electrical contractor Truland Systems Corp. plans to bring about 50 jobs to the Ladysmith area of Caroline County.

Truland recently leased an 115,000-square-foot office and industrial facility at 16517 Bull Church Road. The company will move in around June 1 and be fully operational this summer.

Truland will use the space for prefabrication, materials management and training in support of the company’s electrical construction operations, said Marketing Director Nancy Gordon-Brooks. Over the next few years the facility will ramp up to about 50 employees.

Gordon-Brooks said the Ladysmith location is centrally located in Truland’s service area, offers easy access to Interstate 95 and costs significantly less than other comparable spaces.

Truland will invest about $4.7 million in machinery and building improvements, according to a news release Caroline officials issued Thursday. Truland and county officials are talking about the company’s possible involvement in a school-to-work program in Caroline.

Floyd Thomas, chairman of Caroline’s Board of Supervisors, called Truland’s decision “a great win” for the county.

Indiana Floor Inc. is currently in the Bull Church Road space. That company is now looking at smaller industrial spaces in the Fredericksburg area to continue its operation, said Johnson Realty Advisors President Fitz Johnson, who is representing the firm.
