Local ‘shark tank’ event coming this fall

The local Next Generation of Business Leaders group will hold an event this fall to inspire budding local entrepreneurs to think up great ideas for startup companies.

The event will be patterned after ABC’s popular “Shark Tank” television show, on which entrepreneurs pitch their ideas to successful business people in an attempt to secure financial backing.

Locally, high school seniors and college students will be encouraged to submit written concepts for a business startup. The people who submit the best ideas will be invited to present their concepts at a public local event this fall. A panel of successful local businessmen and women will help decide the best idea, and the winner will receive a cash prize.

Funding for the prize will come in part from a reverse raffle event that the NextGen group will hold starting at 7 p.m. March 1 at the Fredericksburg Country Club. Tickets to that event cost $125 per couple and include an open bar, food and a chance to win $5,000. People interested in buying tickets can contact Whitney Watts with the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce or any NextGen board member.
