Lafayette Boulevard corridor to get a fresh look

A group tasked with boosting Fredericksburg economic development is putting up $9,100 to help improve the look of the Lafayette Boulevard corridor.

The Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority on Monday allocated the funds to Staunton-based architecture firm Frazier Associates for a study of the Lafayette corridor between the river and the Blue and Gray Parkway. The study will include specific design recommendations for three properties.

The work is expected to be done in the next two months, and a report will be made to the EDA this spring. Frazier is now conducting a similar study, also paid for by the EDA, of the Princess Anne Street corridor between U.S. 1 and Fauquier Street.

Frazier performed a similar assessment along Caroline Street a couple of years ago. Several of the firm’s recommendations for facade improvements have now been executed with assistance from the EDA.

City economic development officials have long envisioned new development and an improved look along the Princess Anne and Lafayette corridors, which are key gateways into downtown Fredericksburg.
